Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). 
  • Whisk egg yolks with sugar until thick. 
  • Fold in beaten egg whites, flour, and cornstarch. 
  • Bake thin layers on parchment-lined pans for 10 minutes each.
  • Cream butter with powdered sugar, then mix in melted chocolate and vanilla.
  • Layer sponge and buttercream alternately. 
  • Cover sides with buttercream.
  • Melt sugar with water until golden. 
  • Pour over one sponge layer, score slices before it hardens, and place on top.
