Sahlab, a creamy and comforting Middle Eastern beverage, is perfect for cold nights or when you crave something warm and sweet. Made with milk, sugar, and a thickening agent like ground orchid root or cornstarch, this drink is flavored with subtle hints of vanilla and rose water. Garnished with nuts and cinnamon, Sahlab is not only delicious but also has a rich cultural history, often associated with warmth and hospitality.

Serve Sahlab immediately for a warming, indulgent treat that feels like a hug in a cup!

Here’s the recipe for Warming and Creamy Sahlab;

Directions:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in ½ cup of cold milk until smooth.
  • Heat the remaining milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir in sugar and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dissolved cornstarch to the warm milk, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  • Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens to a creamy consistency.
  • Remove from heat and add rose water if desired.
  • Pour into cups, sprinkle with cinnamon, and garnish with pistachios.
