Directions:

  • Cook the macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente. 
  • Drain and set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. 
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. 
  • Cook until the sauce thickens.
  • Lower the heat and add the shredded cheese, stirring until melted. 
  • Mix in mustard powder if using.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni. 
  • Serve warm, garnished with parsley or breadcrumbs if desired.
