Gyeongdan, a traditional Korean dessert, consists of soft, chewy rice cakes coated in a variety of sweet and flavorful toppings. These delightful treats are often served during special occasions or as a comforting snack. The combination of the tender glutinous rice and the rich flavors of sesame, bean powder, or coconut makes Gyeongdan an irresistible bite-sized dessert.

Gyeongdan is best served fresh, showcasing its tender texture and sweet, nutty flavors.

Here’s the recipe for the Delightful and Sweet Gyeongdan;

Directions:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine glutinous rice flour, salt, and water.
  • Knead until smooth and pliable.
  • Divide the dough into small balls.
  • If using red bean paste, flatten each ball, add a small amount of filling, and seal it into a ball.
  • Boil water in a pot.
  • Add the dough balls and cook until they float, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Remove and drain.
  • Roll the cooked rice cakes in your chosen coating (soybean powder, sesame seeds, or coconut) mixed with sugar.
