Apple Pie is a timeless classic in American baking, beloved for its comforting flavors and flaky crust. A warm slice of this flaky, buttery-crust, sweet, and aromatic Apple pie topped on with a scoop of ice cream is a perfect end to a feast, from a casual lunch to an elegant dinner.

This homemade apple pie is sure to delight with its tender, apple filling encased in a flaky crust—a perfect dessert for any occasion.

Here’s a unique recipe to create a delicious homemade apple pie;

 

Directions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and granulated sugar for the crust. 
  • Add the cold cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape each into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In another mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, lemon juice, and vanilla extract for the filling. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough into a circle large enough to line a 9-inch pie dish. 
  • Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to the pie dish, pressing it gently into the bottom and sides.
  • Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
  • Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  • Cut slits or create decorative vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
  • Brush the top crust with a beaten egg wash for a golden finish.
  • Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  • Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve with a topping of a scoop of ice cream.
