Directions:
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and translucent.
- Add the meat chunks, seasoning with salt, black pepper, and allspice.
- Cook until the meat is browned on all sides.
- Pour in the water or beef broth.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and let simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the meat is tender.
- In a bowl, whisk the yogurt with cornstarch until smooth.
- Gradually add the yogurt mixture to the pot, stirring continuously to prevent curdling.
- Cook over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh mint or parsley.
- Serve hot over rice or bulgur.
