    Here’s the recipe for the Beloved and Hearty Syrian Lamb Yogurt Stew Shakriyeh;

     

    Directions:

    • In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. 
    • Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and translucent.
    • Add the meat chunks, seasoning with salt, black pepper, and allspice. 
    • Cook until the meat is browned on all sides.
    • Pour in the water or beef broth. 
    • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. 
    • Cover and let simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the meat is tender.
    • In a bowl, whisk the yogurt with cornstarch until smooth.
    • Gradually add the yogurt mixture to the pot, stirring continuously to prevent curdling. 
    • Cook over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh mint or parsley. 
    • Serve hot over rice or bulgur.
